Being blind or deaf does not mean the brain can't conjure images from their own mind during REM sleep.

People who were blind from the eyes but still retained the sciatic nerves are still able to "see" without seeing, e.g. they know if something is there and will pass by it without bumping into it. By using their other senses like touch, they can make accurate guesses as to what something looks like (color excluded).

Try having RBD... Sometimes I think people who can't dream are lucky.

My most vivid dreams are just either emotions or physical sensations. Usually a dream with no picture but being with someone I love and feeling happy, or just feeling something familiar.

I'm assuming blind/deaf people experience this but more commonly.

People that were born blind/deaf very likely have the same type of dreams except without their vision or their hearing since the world they know is like that.

For instance, a person that was born blind that had a dream about being at a person they loves funeral would probably still hear sobs and the like... A deaf person would probably still see it but then not hear any sobs.

Someone who became blind a week ago at age 27 would likely still have dreams that include vision and hearing that would eventually fade away. When I got my fingers cut off and reattached with more limited movement I often had dreams at the beginning that I had them fully functional but then eventually they started coming in with the limited movement.

Dreams are combination of the materials we percieved before. So they dream based on those:

Once a blind man gave speech in our school, he was blinded when he was really young like when he was a baby/toddler so when he dreamt he could sometimes have images of color, people who have these disabilities later can dream based on their previous subconcious material.
