That's true but Boruto did manage to perform very well against shikadai when he quickly evade all of his basic shadow possession technique even using his shadow clones to the most efficient way to get to him.

When Bolt got very close in making physical contact, Shikadai had to resort using his best trump card which is something complete unprecedented even surpass shikamaru caliber because his jutsu allows to encompass the whole field and it is basically inescapable if you are very close distance

Anyway the point is Bolt can probably manage his own atleast to certain degree when dealing with long range user, however Boruto already has elemental ninjutsu to compensate it and he can use shadow clones as his decoy if he wanted to outsmart the opponent.

I know that's why I said he has Vanashing rasengan and other elemental ninjutsu to compensate it. Not to mention he's also quick and agile, he does have good foot speed overall.

Looking back its pretty funny how people thought Boruto wasnt gonna have anything Hyuga related in his moveset :lol. The whole fight was clean and he even forced Hanabi to use Kaiten. And at the end used a palm strike to knock the **** outta of that fatty.

Pure talent and skill and this is before Sasuke trains him and he starts to take things seriously, kid solos.

true... Also remember Boruto had a cheat device up his sleeve at the time... When someone knows they can cheat their way out as a last resort, they tend to not give their best or tend to be a bit careless.

Didn't he get into a gentle fist stance before the fight even started? The f ck are all you talking about him switching it up midway, he fought like that the whole short time, AND managed to use his crude af version of gentle fist alongside his kage bunshin. He did good, it was almost like a mix of sasuke and naruto in the kakashi test, with a sprinkle of gentle fist for good measure
