It's long been debated if physical attacks that utilize chakra ( Like Gaara's sand or even susano'o ect ) are susceptible to the Preta techniques.

Well they are, Madara even absorbed some of Gaara's sand >.>, there's no way Gaara just stopped holding him with it, and the sand holding the Susano'o is still holding.

The Rasenshuuriken was absorbed by his right hand, that's why you see the smoke coming out of it.

Gaara's sand was on his left forearm dripping on the ground, the one that was used to drag Madara out of Susanoo.

Preta path absorbs chakra regardless of shape and nature. Gaara's sand is manipulated by chakra, but unlikely that it is chakra itself.

I don't doubt he could absorb earth release though, being a chakra nature. Imagine drawing that though. I'd avoid drawing something difficult as long as possible. That's probably why we don't see it.

the sand itself doesn't get absorbed, only the chakra. honestly though, it makes since that it's like that, because earth style , sand, mokuton are physical objects and would be weird if they got absorbed in that fashion.
