You guys have over 500 members on right now, which is amazing. I'm just wondering how you got soo big and well known because I'm trying to advertise another forum I'm apart of. Also, was there ever a period when you had less than 100 members on frequently, on the forum I'm on we only have like 11 too 25 on a a day.

This is a forum, so of course it started off slow with only few members, but we have gained more members over the years. With this much forums/sections, anyone can express their interests, such as Fan Art, GFX, Sports, News etc etc. Much of these things other Anime forums don't have, which is why this site is a success.

Because the site also has the Manga and the anime, thus making it much more appealing. You can read the manga, watch the anime, comment on it, plus comment on a bunch of other things. Its awesome for the multitasking.

There are two rules to success.

First rule: Never give out all your information.

But on a more serious side note: The biggest part I'd assume is that it's a community that stays active, and that's what keeps people coming in. It's not something that grows over night. Think about it, it took nearly 4 years to get up to this point, and it's only logical that once you starting growing, the rate of growth increases since more people know about it.

Also: Are you honestly asking how to increase the amount of people just so you can do it for your own/ another website you're on? That's like pepsi asking coca-cola what their key ingredients are.

There is no deep secret. It's hard work, luck, and a good idea of how online communities work and grow in the first place. So you pretty much need to know how to use whatever software/hosts you're using, you need to actually put in work and effort, and you need luck.

Most forums make the naive mistake of thinking that the more topics they introduce on their forum the larger it will grow, but in reality all forums need focal points, then expansion; not expansion first.

3 main ways to get an online community:

*Advertise
*Have a unique idea
*Have a major focal point that grabs an audience by default (what this forum used)

Of course having a domain like 'Narutobase.net' is pretty epic too. Would love to know just how much the admins have to pay yearly to keep the domain active and to renew their license, but I doubt they'll tell me, lol.

Target you audience carefully, NB's audience is teens who don't have jobs and have a lot of free time on their hands. Sure there are many who don't fall under this category, but the most are.
Also, try ways to make your community addicting, give members a sense of achievements, like Awards, maybe a roleplay game, a reputation system, things to give them a status.
