As far as we know some poison or drugs can resist wood element.So it is also possible that some one who uses poison or drug can kill Hashirama.Obito know this weakness of wood element.So madara too know that.

From my POV, i think he got a serious wound from fighting madara they are hyped to be equals and i doubt he win the fight of that level w/o any serious injury since we are shown that madara got a chunk of hashi dna, that injury handicapped him that he died during the war, nobody can beat hashirama @ full power from past record.

Unlike Tobirama, it's not clear how and what caused Hashirama's demise. However, I suspect he died shortly after he released the tailed beasts. Just like Rikudo Sennin, controlling the Bijuus will eventually take its toll. I don't think someone killed the First Hokage in battle, if Madara can't beat him, then no one else can.
