How did Sakura fail at being a mother?

Oh there is a such thing as a bad mother. I'd say Kaguya was awful. Even if her parenting was good when Hagoromo and Hamura were kids , turning into a fierce monster and attacking your kids to absorb the power that they inherited from you (which would kill them by the way) definitely ruins one's quality as a mother in my opinion.

This is where you lack comprehension & a moral compass, Sarada didn't need Sakura to relay the details of her birth to validate her connection/love for her. Sarada is mature enough to understand that love isn't dependent on genetics and you would be a closed minded person if you think the opposite. It speaks volumes of Sakura's character as mother that Sarada dismissed any doubt of her paternity due to the love and affection she consistently was shown by Sakura.

It's sad that you to have such a biased closed mined POV, no matter how hard you try you cannot flip my argument. Sakura is a wonderful mother.

Naruto with simple words could soothe sarada. sakura all these years never bothered to say anything like that and still get angry when questioned. She got defensive when Sarada pointed the flaws of her marriage, sakura didn't try to support emotionaly and not even understand sarada, she just cared to protect her marriage and fake it was perfect and everthing was "ok". And if Sakura is fine with photoshped pics and an absent husband, why sarada shouldn't be? Huh?

just the fact that sarada doubted the existence of her parents marriage, and if sakura was even her mother already shows how dysfunctional they are. Sasuke could appear from time to time, so he's a bad husband and father, worse than sakura. Sasuke being a bad parent and partner don't make her automatically an awesome mother though.

the Gaiden manga was just a very awkward handling of parenthood in general actually- the less said about it, the better.

I think she was a good mother raising the little girl by herself, but she lost points after throwing a tantrum and wrecking their house.

Also you guys are overlooking that Sarada is just also an insanely good kid. You can pin that on Sakura but much like Itachi and Naruto, nobody raised them to be perfectly good-hearted- they were just actual angels.

So years of raising a child, taking care of her in sickness, without your husbands help, and overall being so good that your daughter really love you, were erased because of one moment of weakness when she was provoked and annoyed by questions that she wasn't in position to answer, what with Sasuke's mission being secret and all?

Still, that part of Sakura destroying house, frankly, I'd rather say it was just Kishimoto being stupid, because it just didn't mean anything in the end, kinda like when Shin said Sasuke was a shame for Uchiha, even though he himself wasn't real Uchiha.

IMO, I think Kishimoto just needed something to send Sakura in hospital, and not make her a part of Gaiden, and her destroying house was maybe just for the sake of some little hommage of her strength, even though it is weird.

As for Sarada being a good child, sorry, but a child can't be good by default, it just doesn't happen.

Naruto was nice guy because shonen character, but he too did damage when he was a kid, as for Itachi, Fugaku and Mikoto seemed like okay parents to both him and Sasuke; everything else about Itachi being an angel, was just Kishi going over the top, being his fanboy and all.
