when Hashirama wasn't in sage mode? Or was he? I don't remember seeing hashirama in SM in this chapter. Could it be that Madara made Hashirama enter sage mode through the black rods and then rushed by his side and took the chakra? What are the possibilities?

The black rods control him. Hashi can't move right now making him gather infinite senjutsu charka for madara kinda what ma n pa were doing for jman. Plus hashi said madara can absorb ninjutsu. Note he doesn't rinnegan. But in another panel hashirama also said he managed too revive his old power.
