We have no real indication of how strong the Senju at the time were... but I'm guessing those adults were not that impressive. I mean, Hashi and Madara's dads immediately resorted to throwing their sword at the other's kid, and never even used a single jutsu. Several adult Uchiha all cornered and killed Itama with weapons... in fact, there were barely any jutsu used in those flashback battles.
