How did Kakuzu fight Hashirama?

We know that Kakuzu was sent to kill the First, but lost and then he got imprisoned in his own village. At this point, he broke out and stole the forbidden technique and the rest is story. Now, we didn't see anything by Kakuzu except the jutsus derived from that technique, so how could it be possible that he managed to face Hashirama?

Considering that Kishimoto did cover everything on Hashirama up to his battle with Madara, we can safely assume that his battle with Kakuzu too place sometime afterwards.

The OP sounds ad if it's underestimating Kakuzu, when he was in all reality a very powerful guy. Especially with Domu to take into consideration.

He most likely got at least 3 of his hearts crushed before he managed to escape.

People above, you're misunderstanding. Kakuzu obtained domu and all that stuff AFTER fighting Hashirama. When fighting him, he didnt have any powers from that secret hidden waterfall village technique, meaning that he should be pretty weak, so how was he able to fight Hiroshima 1 on 1? - That's what the OP meant.

I think Hashirama has not fought seriously, he beat Kakuzu and he let him go because Hashi is kindhearted and Kakuzu it was just a fodder compared to him. Simple.

Minato wasn't visibly tired, Tobirama was. Besides, he didn't get taken out by them, the 4th databook hinted he went for murder-suicide and pulled a draw. There's also a possibility he had fought Kin and Gin recently, and hadn't recovered, and hence why Kinkaku Butai were hunting him down.

And Minato didn't have a group of students stuck in the middle of a battlefield to think of either.


OT: He'd have probably tried to fight Hashirama, but the latter wouldn't need to try very hard to keep the upper hand. It would've been an uphill battle from the start.

OT:
I don't know how he fought Hashirama, it's a fact that he got his tentacle-technique afterwards. But he must have been a very powerful shinobi before that, otherwise the village wouldn't have sent him to kill the first Hokage that was known as the most powerful shinobi in history. Sadly we never saw the fight, it would've been very interesting !
In the end, Hashirama let him go, I guess. I mean, he was a kind guy after all.
