Honestly, if I had to guess that someone would end up with a family kakashi would be the first person to come to mind simply because of the fact that he's one of the most reasonable level headed people in the series and he just knows so many freakin people. Kiba ended up with the filler chick from sasuke's paw encyclopedia, well did you know that kakashi hooked up with a chick in a filler before in a matter of hours??? So if even women who are out of town want kakashi's D then and we see characters who are hooking up with people they'd never even seen or talked to prior to chapter 700 then what excuse does kishi have????

Realistically, i'd say Kakashi simply isn't interested in a monogamous relationship, and/or hasn't found the woman that fits his requirements. I may sound a bit misogynistic, but after the conclusion of the Fourth Shinobi War, which was when all the hooking up started, Kakashi was pretty much the best man that a woman could get, a regular James Bond that pretty much has no flaws, so it's kinda safe to assume he could have had any kunoichi, if he wanted to.

I think Kakashi just concluded that he'd prefer to experience "Icha Icha Tactics" first hand, but not have a longterm relationship.

40 is not old, not in real life, and most definitely not in the Naruto Universe. Prime age for males in real life is 27-44 and in Naruto most of the strongest in the manga were in that 30-40 age range.
