How did Itachi manage that?

I'm sure someone asked before, but what do you think?

How did Itachi manage to protect Konoha AND to work for Akatsuki?
Tobi mentioned that nobody can stop him because Itachi is dead.
So, Tobi already knew that Itachi wasn't a true loyal Akatsuki member.
But why did Tobi anything against him?
He knew everything about Itachi. He knew his right intensions and his past.

So how worked this connection?

made agreement to not touch sasuke and village. he let itachi do as he pleased because he knew he wasn't a threat as long as he didn't go near sasuke and the village. and itachi just played his part just relaxing in akatsuki

Tobi lives up to his promises. Everyone should know he isn't the back stabbing type of guy and he himself values loyalty. That's why he choked the shit out of Konan. He should of put that bitch on a leash. I'm joking lol, Konan is one of my favorites. Anyways, Itachi was probably a valuable member. And its possible that Tobi, at his state, maybe wouldn't have been a match for him.

You see, Itachi and Tobi made a deal. Tobi needed Itachi's firepower to get the Bijuu. In exchange, Tobi nor Akatsuki would attack Konoha. Tobi worked in the shadows and told Nagato/Pein what to do and ish. He simply had Nagato/Pein not attack Konoha till Itachi died due to the deal. Since the Leader wasn't going to do anything to the village, the followers didn't either.
