How did Indra unlock his sharingan?

It's said that the sharingan, from the first tomoe to the mangekyou is unlocked through great emotional trauma. However, it seems to be implied the world was still at peace and Indra was a loner so what could have helped him to unlock his sharingan?

-being born with it already unlocked?
-Kaguya's or his mother's death?
-the death of a girlfriend or friends?
-Hagoromo choosing Ashura over him?

I disagree. Tobirama stated the Uchiha love more than any other clan. I believe both love and hatred are factors to it.

But do we know for certain Hagoromo was born with his Rinnegan unlocked?

Couldn't he just have realized his potential by sensing the spiritual chakra in his body?

Sure, Itachi was born a genius and a prodigy as well and mastered the base Sharingan I believe by eight, but even he had it unlocked through witnessing war, carnage, shisui's supposed death and killing the clan.

you have a point he dont have ems, his chakra is so powerful he can draw perfect susano'o without it.

kagua had strongest dojutsu with byakugan ability he can cast genjutsu from far away
his son sage have almost same eyes not powerful as kagua
sage's kid indra had sharingan and probably mangekyo came with it only now its mutated to a point you need to kill your friends to awaken same power that indra had.. maybe thats curse of indra not uchiha

He was most likely born with the Sharingan, due to being of direct lineage to Hagoromo, and he may have even obtained his Mangekyou through the emotional trauma caused by not being chosen as Hagoromo's successor.

And the reason he doesn't have EMS is because his Mangekyou is so close to the Rinnegan. "EMS" was a result of his line becoming diluted over time.

Just speculation on my part.

It is now confirmed that the sage was born with the Rinnegan, but it wasn't a divine thing, rather it was a result of his mother having eaten the Juubi fruit.

I believe he was born with it unlocked already. To those saying he got it after the sage chose Asura, I disagree. He was shown with the Sharingan before Asura was chosen.
