It seems like Tobirama paid more attention to the battles that were fought with the Senju than Hashi did. It's also possible that Tobirama got information after learning that he was going to try to ambush the Uchiha.

Well that's obvious for those two, but this thread is about why Tobirama and Izuna greeted each other in the same way. I just find it weird he knew who Izuna was while Hashi didn't know Madara before they met

As Tobirama said he was the better sensor so Tobirama might be collecting information on Uchiha clan on the order by his father. So Tobirama would know about Uchihas more instead of Hashirama. Hashiram was busy practicing with Madara and becoming stronger together.

Considering how famous their fathers are, its not unusual that they both know each other. Both Tobirama and Izuna seem to be the same.... fathers boy and highly intelligent.

Probably assumed, their fathers are probably high ups in their clans, so they would know their sons names too.

I agree with everyone else. They have probably fought each other in the past. Tobirama and Izuna also seem more eager to please their fathers then Hashirama and Madara do. This draw an interesting corollary between Izuna and Sasuke, both are over zealous in pleasing their father while shadowed by the older brother. However this is just speculation.
