So we know he defeated Madara, but we also know he didn't die of old age, because when he's brought back via edo tensei he's still youthful. Also Tobirama died during his prime, and as the Second Hokage, so Hashirama had to have died prior to this.
So Hashirama senju, possibly the most powerful shinobi to exist prior to the show, certainly the most powerful man alive, defeats the only other shinobi who could stand up to him, but he dies in his prime, how could this be?

Disease is a possibility but I feel with his legendary healing prowess, and being a reincarnation of Asura I feel like a disease isn't going to wipe him out. We know he didn't die as a result of his battle with Madara, because it was Madara's use of Kurama which led to Hashirama deciding the tailed beasts must be caged, and we see him having this discussion with kurama at some point. He also convenes a meeting of the five Kage, and seems perfectly well.
So Hashirama, the most powerful man alive, in the prime of his life, with the ability to control tailed beasts so they can't have been used as a weapon against him. What could possibly strike him down when he's stronger than ever?

He was killed by some nobody in the first world war. Says so according to the 1st or 2nd databook. That's why when he was brought back he was shaking his head about no matter what era you're in there will always be war. He made that comment during his first edo tensei appearance.

Hashirama is also not the most powerful shinobi, he's only human, even he has his limits although his fanbase doesn't believe he has any.

How the hell is a nobody managing that?

Madara solo's the soldiers of the allied shinobi forces with taijutsu alone, but someone is bringing down Hashirama?

That's some B.S. Kishi needs to fix that

His body died from over usage.
If you recall, when Tsunde used her healing jutsu, Shizune said that this accelerates the cells and there is a limited amount to it. So, it cuts her life span. Same was said about Naruto when he enters 4th tail mode.
Hashirama fought since childhood in fights to the death. His body by the age of 30 was probably falling apart.

Hashirama die shortly after his fight with Madara. He gave out the Pokemon to other nations, then kick the bucket. regeneration power eventually comes back to collect its debt.

That doesn't mean he died young though. Madara died when he was pushing 100 years old, but he came back in his prime.

Well keep in mind the first two Data books came out before part 2, not everything was fleshed out yet.

But the fact that he was dead at the time Tobirama died, and Tobirama died young means Hashirama died young

I guess this is more plausible, but his healing technique isn't necessarily the same as Tsunade's

Pretty much. Naruto's Uzmaki blood might prolong his life a bit, but big chance he will kick the bucket by 60.
Why would he kick the bucket by 60? The average lifespan of a regular man is 80s, let alone someone who's as in shape as a ninja xD

Yeah I hate stuff like that though, like "Oh sorry we didn't realise we were gonna make hashirama OP when we made that" like, c'mon at least write something that fixes it haha

It is anime law, No matter how Godly your healing power is, it will always shorten your life or have a long-term effect on the body. I'm pretty sure growing up, Hashirama was letting weak shinobi stab him to prove a point.

That is true.

While it is not a fact, Madara said that Tsunde's jutsu is similar to Hashirama (Although hers was temporary).

From healing too much.

Madara took out a few people in the allied force, he really couldn't solo everyone with gaara, onoki, and naruto being right there to push him to use his rinnegan which is above all forms of hashirama and ems madara.
But during war anything could happen, if a kunai knife to the gut could kill hashirama, then what's stopping that possibility from happening again in war against 4 other nations.

Hahsirama is human and he has his limits too. Someone probably aimed for him when he was vulnerable.

edit: Just realize that the first world war was the Ginkakau and Kinkaku thing. So I'm assuming it's those brothers.
