How did Hashirama not know?

After thinking a while about the whole Madara surviving part......how did Hashirama not know this?

I mean did Hashirama or anyone else not question Madara's body disappearing(I assume)?

I doubt that he would just leave it there....

I question him just leaving one of the most powerful shinobi' body's (ninja bodies are full of secrets) out in the open, also the most powerful Sharingan eyes ever..why not take the body so no other ninja can get all it's secrets?
