Hagoromo has control over the spirits of the pure world. We saw this when he summoned the Gokage. Edos are just spirits from the pure world forced back into another body (impure world). So he simply returned the spirits of Oro's edo tensei to the pure world.

The rinnegan can toy with the souls......remember rinne tensei, human path, narak path, soul ripping dragon, soul summoning etc.
Edo tensei is just the summoning of the souls from the pure world to the impure world ...same as the soul summoning of the kages, but within a medium i.e. dead bodies with the DNA of the person who is summoned. In other words edo tensei is just another way of summoning souls not the only way. U_U

Also he had long been travel in afterlife dimension, sure he have witness many soul of dead peoples transcended to afterlife dimension using the path way he is currently reside.

That is mean for a period of time he have studying about how human soul work, react, shape, and so on. And not far to say that he is also happen to encounter and experiencing the event of soul being summon by some weird jutsu that is Edo tensei.

And for someone that have a ability to operate in other dimension sure he also have a power to control and effect anything that happen in that dimension. And it can be said that Hagoromo even he is dead by reality/real world standard but actually not dead in his other dimension standard. That mean in there he can learn new thing and creating new ability from the knowledge he is gain.

It include the learning about impure world summoning power by studying how this technique work, what chakra is involve, what kind of seal is appear when the soul is called upon, etc.

When hokages gave him their chakra Hagoromo obtained the chakra of The Neutralizer. His chakra mixed with him and that allowed him to use a lower version of Neutralization. Just like Izanagi is lower version of COAT.

It definately isnt a plot hole. I mean we have had edos free THEMSELVES, even when kabuto controlled them. They just managed to ascend out of their edo bodies, by themselves once they were at peace or something.

Hiruzen can't do anything, he only prevented Edo Tensei from being activated. Anyways I guess you forgot that Kabuto's Edo's would get undone when they found peace like Sasori did, samething with the Hokages.
