How did Ao survive?

So a Juubi bijou bomb hit HQ and wiped out everyone except Ao? He only lost some limbs.

I am not against his return in the series, as I think it is interesting. Also his name the byakugan killer and his connection to Kara make me want to know more.
Maybe Kara was of influence of him gaining a byakugan.
I cant wait to read more about him.

However I am still trying to imagine how he survived a Juubi bijou bomb.

Did it land at a significant distance from the HQ that he could survive it?
Did his Byakugan or his connection to Kara help him survive?

How do you think did he survive?

The optimist answer? Boruto's Jougan has shown some space/time abilities during the Nue Arc's climax, maybe Ao awoke something similar when faced with his own death and was able to escape at the cost of his arm and leg.

The real answer? Plot. Nothing more, nothing less.
