How come Naruto was never able to realize the exploit of a kage bunshin?

That's because Sakura had a special talent when it comes to breaking genjutsu. Naruto didn't do well in his studies either, it isn't just chakra control.
Yeah that's right. But Naruto used less time to study to get attention by playing the fool (don't get me wrong, he was portrayed to be dumb but I don't think he really ways THAT dumb but rather used to get more attention when he did bad) 'cause he lacked a family to pay attention to or scold him.

Edit:
He has shown slightly clever feats before. Nothing new.
I agree with you. At this point I might seem like a Naruto fanboy defending his fav (which I am not ._.) but if you'd consider reading the paragraph I mentioned above in this post you can get insight of my thinking on the matter.

Something to note is that the shadow clones were used in situations to surround and outnumber an opponent, to make a chain to catch Naruto and fling him back onto a platform whenever he fell off, or to pull himself out of danger. To begin with, when he uses shadow clones for those purposes, he already knows pretty much exactly what's going to happen, so he has it visualized beforehand. So the memories from the shadow clones would probably just mix with the memories of him quickly planning it out. On another note, those clones aren't usually around for very long, so the information they gather is minimal to begin with. And when he uses them for Rasengan and Rasenshuriken, they have a very specific task that they concentrate on before disappearing. Essentially, they work on an aspect that ideally, Naruto should be able to do all by himself, thus making their fleeting memories an expected, though rather "fodder in the backround" result.

Kakashi was the first person to show Naruto what the jutsu was actually meant for. Before that, Naruto only used them in close combat type situations where everything went too fast for him to actually sit down and absorb the information before continuing. Because, theoretically and logically speaking, the more clones that are made, and the more information they collect, the longer that it should take the original to consciously sort through all of it. And since Naruto isn't the type to do that, it just gets shoved to the back of his brain and forgotten, like what you had for breakfast yesterday, or the words in the middle of the last chapter you read in one of your favorite books. Sure the information is there, but since it has very little relevance to the task at hand, whatever that may be, it gets ignored for the most part. And yes, in most cases, little details have very little to do with whether or not Naruto can smack Kabuto in the gut with a Rasengan, or whether he can smash a Rasenshuriken into Kakuzu from point-blank range.

Well, that's my take on it anyway.

I would not really call Naruto a stratgist, but he is someone who learns by experience rather than watching. I guess he adaptable for any situation you could say, because he performed those "slightly clever" feats all throughout Kakuzu, Pain, War, and Kaguya Arc.

Having a special talent for breaking Genjutsu does not mean a thing when someone has to first learn HOW to break out of a Genjutsu first.
Doesn't change my point. It just goes to show that in the art of breaking genjutsu, at that point in time, Naruto was below average while Sakura was above average.

That does not really answer the question, change the subject, nor rebuttal what I stated.

Naruto's chakra control and flow was horribly disrupted by the Kyuubi, so him trying to break out of any Genjutsu is/was a joke at that point in time. Sakura, who was foreshadowed to have great chakra control earned those feats of breaking out of Genjutsu because of that. Only because she learned how to do it as-well. Perfect chakra control does not automatically grant you mastery of breaking out of Genjutsu, you first need to recognize it, and know the seals to Kai out. Practice.

He did not have any of that, nor the training of being able to do so. Probably because of the time he spent playing pranks, while everyone was learning from their parents, or just reading textbooks (Sakura).

Still doesn't change the fact that he's a dumb ass.
