Dai obviously had been a genin for years hence "Eternal genin" nickname. But he showed the aptitude to open all 8 Gates at once, on the spot, neg diff. So he was clearly experienced, even teaching his son.

However, Lee had to open the gates one by one and could only reach 5, yet Kakashi called him a true genius. 3 years later and he's only at 6.

This is not a sleight at Lee, as he's an incredible shinobi and worthy of his genius accolades. But why the double standard? Why was Dai was not recognized despite having the Gates at his disposal.

Pretty asscheeky imo.

it took might guy father 20 years to learn how to open all 8 gates. by then he was already a grown middle aged man.

lee was able to open5/6 gates at the age of 13.

I'm assuming the gates were not respected until Dai used it against the swordsmen.

Dai knew a forbidden Jutsu... Was only Taijutsu based... He prolly didn't get far rank wise due to not being able to use Chakra=/Thread

Well he was considered an eternal genin. He couldn't pass a chuunin exam, and I assume it wasn't because he stopped trying...

He just must have not been the best of fighters if he kept getting beat by peer genin years after years. Not to mention does that mean he couldn't open the gates individually? Or were chuunin exams that competitive at that time? :|

Well developing a technique is harder than just learning it from someone who already found the ways to use it . Anyway not even Gai knew he had hachimon , he probably never showed that to anyone

Dai was probably in his 30's and could open all 8 as a genin.

Lee was 13 and could open 5 as a genin

there is a difference

So Kakashi called Lee a genius and he said the Sharigan derived from the Byakugan.

Ya know... to be such a 'genius', Kakashi really does say some dumb shyt.

It may have taken Dai longer but that doesn't negate the difficulty of the technique. It took Minato 3 years to master Rasengan, but Naruto mastered it in a few days and was able to add a nature to it. Kakashi mastered it faster as well, as he said he invented Chidori because he couldn't add a form and nature change to Rasengan and he knew Chidori during the flashback when he was 13. Konohamaru learned it mad young too. But that doesn't detract from Minato's genius or how hard the skill is.

but dai wasn't the creator of the gates well minato was the creator of rasengan, also minatos genius didn't come from rasengan it came from his skill as a shinobi and his speed of ftg

it took him 20 years whereas lee managed it from the time he graduating up till he entered the chunin exams to gain 5 gates so it wouldn't make sense to put dai and lee in the same category when talking about the gates
