Maybe they prefer other characters over the MC- not exactly hating.

It's like when you go to a grocery store, you are given multiple fruits and vegetables to choose from, just because you choose one over the other doesn't mean you necessarily hate the others- it's preference.

You might even be interested in the lore or themes of the story rather than the characters themselves. Parasyte, FMA, and Tokyo Ghoul are good examples of this. (for me at least)

I hate fruits that I don't buy which is why I don't buy them.

Depends on the series. I don't mind not being into the mc when the mangaka is good
and knows how to give the other leading/side characters importance and a good amount of screen time.

In most cases i like the other chracters more than the mc anyway.

Well if the story, setting, universe and other characters are brilliant i guess one could watch it. I on the other hand haven't found a MC that I would completely hate.
