For the years I've been on this site, there are a couple problems that seem to be the BIGGEST regarding the rules, moderating, and punishment system.

I'll say it again at the end, but this is an open discussion about "how can we fix narutobase" and all members are welcome, mods and admins included. It has no definite end, so if you can be like those "nice" mods and not close it, that'd be great. If you DO, don't trash it. My words are important to me, so i'd prefer if they didn't disappear.

But the first and foremost, is inconsistencies. Taking the rules OUT OF CONTEXT. When you look at a rule, you need to consider the original reason that the rule was made.

Lets look at this one:

  • On this site, you WILL get infracted for bypassing the swear filter. Lets look at how this works: If i say the f word completely, this is what showes up. ****. This isn't against the rules. The site has just censored me and I am not in violation of the rules. But if I make alterations to the word myself, it becomes against the rules. So if someone puts alternate characters in, suddenly its "different" from the built in censorship system. You get in trouble like this. fvck. Its not the same word, but its against the rules. Its the same as asterisks. Everyone knows what the word is, but this is inherently different. The issue is, where do we draw the line? Is f&#@ allowed? how about f&%k, f&ck, or even using "ú" to make fúck. My point is, when you see "naruto is going to **** that ninja up" (which is allowed) its different than "naruto is going to fvk( that guy up". In the first scenario, you're not trying at ALL to censor yourself, but its allowed. The second, you're attempting to censor yourself, but now you're in trouble.
The point is to not go around swearing all the time. But they say the f word in naruto (at least mangapandas version which is POSTED ON THIS SITE). Plus punishing people for attempting to censor themselves? That's just inconsistent.
  • Secondly, and this is a stupid one. Sexuality. I never understood why this site tries to market itself as a "family friendly site". How can it be? Its a site about a manga that HAS swearing and sexuality. Shouldn't you be able to have similar content in the forums? Now I feel inclined to include the obligatory "i don't particularly care about posting sexual stuff" but we should have a degree of consistency. There are sexual themes in naruto, violence, alcohol use, and swearing. So the hair splitting you see here is just stupid, but back on topic. I once posted a picture FROM THE MANGA. It was of hinata in the bath house. I got banned because it was inappropriate. A page from the manga that this website offers for viewing isn't welcome in the forums. Yes, i altered the image, in microsoft paint, i drew a nipple as a joke. A drawing. of. a. nipple. It was a series of black pixels. In a circle. These are drawings guys. ink. It should matter WHAT image i'm posting so long as it is a drawing (if you want to ban actual pictures, fine. But i've seen guys with NEARLY nude real women in their sigs, but if you have a FULL nude drawing, it shouldn't matter, because its a drawing. Here's an example
Here is an eye ball . I can call it an eye ball because i drew it. But what if i call it a nipple? suddenly is it lewd? The point is, it isn't ANYTHING. Its not a nipple. its not an eye ball. Its a circle inside of a larger circle.
  • Multiposting has been completely taken out of context. Why is there a rule against it? so people don't go make a thread and reply to themselves a million times to boost their post count. or so they don't spam someones thread with 100+ posts. But posting twice by accident? Or posting twice NOT by accident? Thats not what the rule was about. So you want to reply to 2 people and don't feel like refreshing or multiquote posting. It shouldn't be infractable. But it is. And its really a poor use of time. If you wanna fix it, write a program physically not allowing it.
  • Yet after ALL of these stupid things you guys pursue, you don't take down posts that spoil the manga. People aren't always here for the manga, some are for the anime. some are here just to READ the manga and aren't caught up. Some are here to talk about naruto video game news. So not only do people have spoilers and not warn people... some people have spoilers IN THE SUBJECT LINE. So you can get spoiled just for going on narutobase.net. This is an actual rule thats important (and it IS a rule) but mods won't do anything about that.
I've had some flack lately about making posts of this nature, but i've realized what i've done wrong. i can't get angry. Sometimes people get too passionate. The point is, if you want to have an impact, MAKE your impact while following the rules yourself. I think the only rule i've broken in this thread is the f bombs, but thats at most an infraction, a risk i'm willing to take.

This is an open discussion for both moderators and members, and doesn't have a finite end. There is no overarching question that, when answered, constitutes the end of the post. Some of the nice moderators let these question threads go without closing them (drizzy comes to mind). If you wanna close it, i can't help that, but don't trash it. This should be read.

The narutobase has had a lot of issues, and I want to know what you members think can be done to fix it.

Update to the newer v bulletin maybe? Get MORE moderators maybe? There are lots of things we can do as members.

I want to hear your voice, we all have one. This site may not last too much longer after naruto ends, but lets make it as great of a place we can while we have it. Narutobase is actually an amazing place to share ideas. Its bigger than OPbay, saiyan island, and narutohq. Hell, its probably the biggest forum i'm part of. I haven't ever seen another place with 7+ page threads. And i love that.

Sorry i'm rambling. What ideas do you have to make the site better? Honestly, one of the easiest... i want "hottest threads" back. An incentive to make great threads. This "popular thread" section is almost all theory threads and posts with less than 10 replies.

What say you?

So you're asking if we can post hentai? Nice try. Even though, they are just lines and shapes, it's easy to make it to the point where our brain sees it as something purely sexual and not a balloon shape or something.

And just because the manga is mature, doesn't mean the administrators can't set their own line.

I stopped caring after the Sasuke fanboys found means to get people banned/infractions for daring to speak against their "Lord".

For the years I've been on this site, there are a couple problems that seem to be the BIGGEST regarding the rules, moderating, and punishment system.
I can take it from someone who consistently never understand the grounds for his infractions to pursue this noble cause of change. Ofc it's the rules fault :).

I'll say it again at the end, but this is an open discussion about "how can we fix narutobase" and all members are welcome, mods and admins included. You don't partake in any things how to change Narutobase itself, only our rules that you for some reason having so much difficulty to grasp and come to respect it would seem. A thread always have a definite end and you can't seriously expect to have an endless discussion how to alter the rules to everyone's liking because that's not going to happen. "Nice" mods closes threads too since they portray the specifical thread they close as a closed argument and saves your time of posting in a dead debate or troll thread. But i guess they are the bad guys cause you can't raise your post count further with saying beans related subjects(not saying that you do that but w/e). Deleted threads doesn't always delete your words either, if your thread is come to be deleted you may ask a moderator to copy/paste your text back to you in a Pm.

On this site, you WILL get infracted for bypassing the swear filter. Lets look at how this works: If i say the f word completely, this is what showes up. ****. This isn't against the rules. Yes that's how it always has worked and will continue to do so until further notice.
You don't bring up a valid point here as when you do censor by-pass you either use BB codes or other letters to complete the censored word. If you type in the word completely and let the censor system work, no problem cause that means that no one will know what odd choice of word you chose to spit out at the moment hence it couldn't lead to violating inappropriate word feuds. The moment you so much as change one letter in a curse word it gets bypassed and if you so choses to put a v instead of a u in a curse word it's obvious you're trying to by-pass it and don't give a shit that we have the censoring system for a reason. If we thought it was ok for you to do that from the start there'd be no censor system and ultimately no hinder from bad language on the site. Unfortunately not many members lately i've yet discovered has acknowledged this and it's such an unnecessary infraction/warning to get. Not that any warning/infraction is necessary since if you'd actually read the global rules which you swore you'd do when joining you'd not end up with these situations.

Let the censor system work, and no probs.

Secondly, and this is a stupid one. But i've seen guys with NEARLY nude real women in their sigs, but if you have a FULL nude drawing, it shouldn't matter, because its a drawing. Here's an example
The manga was never rated 18+ when i last checked and i've yet to see heavy sexual content in the manga. We base the assumption of a family friendly forum on what the manga contains and is rated at. I think it's.. 15 yo limit or something like that. Which means no nudity or use of bad language. Sure the manga might've used a bad language here and there but it's not nearly as much as most comments on NB has which has made us into the decision of minimizing it as a whole. There are kids at this site, respect them too..
Your infraction means that you by-passed what we also tolerate in forms of nudity, nipples aren't allowed. Your infraction at that point is justified. It doesn't matter if you draw an eyeball on a tit(wtf) if it's considered inappropriate it's treated as such. But you didn't do that either you even said yourself that you drew a nipple and we have said before that we find that inappropriate.

Multiposting has been completely taken out of context.
The multi-posting rule was made to decrease spam and post raising, the only place i think i know of that allows it is the premium section. But then again i think you where only allowed to post a maximum of three posts after yourself. Also the rule involves alt accounts so if you post behind your alt account it counts as the same. If you don't feel like refresh the quote that takes like 5 secounds it's your choice and no we don't infract for one single multi-post. We do it if we find the specific user doing so a lot, which we find disrespectful and spamish-behaviour.

Yet after ALL of these stupid things you guys pursue, you don't take down posts that spoil the manga.
Mods cannot be everywhere and so we rely on people reporting these matters right away instead. If a user spoils the manga intentionally they get punished for it, but if they include the spoiler prefix in their thread title they haven't done anything wrong.

Well that's the point, you need to realize what you've done wrong which is also why infractions never goes away in your bar. They also serve as reminders. You say that like you think admins who made the rules break them, well no one is stopping you from reporting an administrator. Yeah a risk you're willing to take, good so mean you actually haven't learned anything but you said that you just did? Wtf.

There isn't much to discuss, you're bringing out "flaws" about the rules the admins have enforced and none of your points i've seen as valid excuses to change them. I don't expect to do so either. Yes it has a finite end, so does all threads. You cannot make a thread to discuss everything in. Otherwise there goes the thread system as well. I'm closing it due to the points i've brought up to you and the fact that only admins will decide if rules are going to be changed in "your favour". Admins are free to post after me after i close this thread.

The narutobase has had a lot of issues, and I want to know what you members think can be done to fix it.

No forum is perfect, but the one's that voluntarily work their asses off for NB on their spare time tries to do their best. We will not update to vB5 yet as we just recently updated to vB4. When mods and plug-ins stop appearing for vB4 we might consider it.

I don't think "Hottest threads" will be introduced back as we already have:

Popular Threads this week

and

Today's Topics.

Asking people what suggestions they wish to share is great, that's whats this section is for but for now this thread is mainly focused about you, wishing the rules where adjusted "better" and i don't see how updates of software has anything to do with that. This would mean that the thread would never end and we might aswell get rid of the entire Q&S forum as a whole then. Not to mention suggestions gets more clear when you have them per thread so you can easily debate the matter in one thread. Instead of having a tonne of different suggestions in one big thread, it'd get confusing as hell..
