None of those would suit his fighting style. Shikamaru's unique trait is that he only has one jutsu (not including the variants) but can make so many different tactics using it. It's like if Light or Lelouch kept getting power ups as their series went on.

Maybe because Shikamaru clearly has a more important role in the future of Konoha than Lee. Lee will be a Jonin no doubt but Shikamaru will be Naruto's advisor. Or maybe he's just more popular because he's easier to relate to. There are more lazy people out there than there are tight wearing weirdo's with insane work ethic. (I say that last part with love.)
