No because it's not the same thing. Gaara actually grew up being hated and feared when he only wanted to be loved, in fact his uncle lied to him and told him his mother never loved him. Gaara's mom died in childbirth and he was blamed for it plus his uncle was order to kill him by his father and told him he wanted to kill him, the only person who shown Gaara kindness wanted him dead . He wanted to play with other kids but they all feared him and had hatred and disgust in their eyes and . Gaara is not allowed to sleep or else the Bijuu could take over his body which is how he got the black marks around his eyes .

yes, he had a bad child hood, agreed.

Gaara only killed fellow villagers and it was never shown to be on purpose at first, the sand did defended him from attacks from people trying to kill him. After he gave into the darkness is when he would kill anyone who cross him the wrong way but he never showed to kill ninjas from other villagers unless they were attacking him. In the death forest they had to get the scrolls to pass on, the ninja team that fought Gaara might have lived if they just gave the scroll and left. Gaara killed some ninjas in the last stage of the chunin exam when they were bothering him and .

he still killed people. whether or not they were a small quantity doesnt excuse the action. if you wanna justify this by saying they opposed him then i hope you dont state sasuke killing samurais as a wrong deed as that would just be hypocritical.
Sasuke on the other hand did lost his parents and clan to his brother but he did not have to do all that he did. He was doing just fine being apart of team 7 and had bonds with people that cared about him but he severed those bonds and turned into the very same think Tobirama wanted to avoid. It's not all Itachi's fault, Sasuke chose to do what he did and no one forced him; Itachi encouraged him to but Sasuke was going down a brighter path until meeting Itachi again and from the sound 4 taunting him. Unlike Gaara, Sasuke joined a international criminal organization and was the one to give them some of the 8 tails chakra which allowed the Juubi to be resurrected; you need portions of all bijuus to revive it. Sasuke attacked the leaders of the other nations and caused A to lose an arm. He killed some Samurais who were neutral under Mifune.

you slight sasukes situation wayy too much. he was a 7 yr old kid who saw everyone he knew dead all in one night, his parents were killed by his own brother who he had looked up to itachi replayed the horror over and over to him through genjjutsu. as a kid thats enough to make some one go completely mental. so when you say sasuke didnt have to do what he did, you are wrong as sasuke felt he needed itachi to pay for his crime so he set it as hes goal. you want him to just let everything slide which is unreasnabe. not to mention thats how itachi wanted it to plan out, itachi planned his life. again slighting what itachi did to sasuke. do you know what torture is?? after sasuke was warming up to his comrades in team 7, itachi came again and tortured him after beating him up. he told sasuke he was worthless and weak and left sasuke in a coma. do you know how horrible that is?? so you want sasuke to just abandon everything and ignore what itachi did and said to him? plss, like gaara had someone who tortured and planned his life for him. well well well the hypocrisy i was talking about. you defend gaara by saying he only killed those who opposed and annoyed him yet you are condemning sasuke for killing the samurai and taking ays arm and attacking mifune and the others forgetting that well, they attacked him. thats the double standard i was talking about. if you justify gaara then sasuke is also justified. simple, call a spade a spade

Sasuke was stated to have no future after he attacked the Kage Summit because the Raikage and those Akatsuki hurt won't stay quiet . Well considering the Uchihas were Tobirama's enemies for the majority of his life and the fact that he stated that he seen them lose control many times before were why he sectioned them off from the village. Why would Tobirama keep a clan full of people who have the potential to fall into hatred and run wild as he have seen many times, around the other villagers? If Tobirama hated them then he would have had them killed off but he didn't, he even sacrifice himself for his team which had an Uchiha in it, he didn't sent the Uchiha off instead did he? .

without him, the alliance will remain zetsu army so he definitely has a future as he will help save all their ass's, that statement is irrelevant. doesnt excuse tobiramas actions one bit.
Sasuke doesn't even shown to be sorry for his crimes or shown to care what others think. After saying he will become Hokage, he said he knows that he can't erase what he's done so far but that he doesn't care what they think. A Hokage is someone that is acknowledged as a one by the people and they don't acknowledge him as a comrade or as a leader . Just because Sasuke is currently fighting with them doesn't make him their comrade, he doesn't care about them which he shown when he only planned to save Naruto and Juugo when they were in Juubito's barrier and how he only was protecting Naruto against Kaguya since he knows he needed Naruto to fight both Juubito and Kaguya. If he didn't then he wouldn't have been saving anyone.

war>>>>whateva he did. theres a more bigger threat on ground than sasuke killing samurai. him not showing remorse for his actions doesnt change the good stuffs hes done
1 taking out deidara and orochimaru
2. helping his brother defeat kabuto and stop edo tensei which saved countless lives
3. requesting orochimaru to summon hokages and then making a positive decision which made them go out to the war and aid the alliance which saved them.
4. bringing hope to the alliance and saving them by cutting the god tree branch that was about to suck their chakra completely
5.helping to defeat obito and later on fighting madara and now kaguya

sasuke may not have shown remorse for his past actions but he sure has hell taking certain actions that have saved the shinobi world including the kages. hes done some good also. your last part is wrong, sasuke is fighting now not for himself but to make sure itachis and his clans sacrifice is not in vain, he wants to show the world what a true kage is

So you can see the difference between Gaara and Sasuke, Sasuke's crimes were international and he doesn't care to fix what he have done while Gaara's crime was 99% confined in the Sand village and he worked hard to change how everyone felt about him. He turned a village that all feared and hated him into one where they all trust and love him. Gaara also have never wronged or attacked any other Kage or their village; Orochimaru was the mastermind behind the attack on the leaf and Gaara was following orders to attack so that doesn't count as Gaara attacking Konoha since it was sound and Sand vs Leaf and not Gaara vs Hokage or Konoha

no, gaara crimes is not just the sand village. he tried killing lee and threatened to kill naruto and shikamaru, and even then its still not justified. he was part of the those who attacked the leaf and the fact that you are trying to excuse by saying he was just following orders is distasteful. making excuses for him to say he didnt do wrong. if you want to put it that way then sasuke was just following his own sense of justice in what ever he did.

Ok, explain to me what was the purpose of Naruto getting strong?

Naruto's purpose of getting stronger was to be acknowledged, not just as as being strong, but as a person. His purpose for getting strong was so that people would recognize and accept him, as opposed to reject him for reasons of which he had no knowledge. Strength, to him, was a way for him to combat loneliness that plagued his life for reasons that were not his fault, the peak of strength, and thus acknowledgement, was to become hokage. If he did not have strength, he felt he wouldn't get recognized, and that he would continue to be stuck in his lonely world where everybody hated him for no reason.

That purpose is just as valid and strong as Sasuke's. Only blatant bias and ignorance will allow you to deny that.
People should hate this char unlike that other char who has 3 years becoz the first didn't choose pathway of flowers or became humble or resposible for his action like other one and though he was wronged by many and even the flaws of shinobi system but that's irrelevent.
Damn nice logic
You have literally read nothing I have said, and keep bringing up irrelevant statements into this debate that make zero sense. I have nothing left to say to you.

I wish you would take the time to read things in it's entirety.

@Bold
Vegeta went to hell after that... did you watch DBZ?

The fact that he manned up and willingly died to protect what he cared about knowing that it was a drop in the bucket in all his sins is commendable. It showed growth and the fact that he changed! Even if it was a little.

@Bold Red.
Yes, in some people's eyes, if Sasuke sacrificed himself and saved the entire world and apologized for all he did wrong. He would be more likable to others.

It isn't because it's Sasuke. I don't have some sort of vendetta against him. I like his character. But his actions are something I do not agree with. That makes me dislike him a little more than Gaara.

its ok man, you are cool. i have nothing against you. i was just speaking generally

If you understand someone, you can rationalize anything they do. Perhaps people hate Sasuke more because he is harder for them to understand. Rather than compare Sasuke and Gaara, I would recommend that you explain Sasuke's thinking :)

Might be kind of irrelevant/redundant sorry

Will Naruto doom himself to lonliness and cut out everything else in his world to attain that strength? If it meant gaining that strength would he kill his best friend if it meant he would be acknowledged? Would Naruto risk becoming someone else's puppet if it meant being acknowledged?

Does that make his purpose less valid or less strong than Sasuke? No. Sorry.

This is an interesting thread with a lot of well constructed arguments, and it's definitely a subject I think about often. Obviously, the answer to this question is highly subjective, and I don't believe there is a single right answer. I like reading everyone's opinion on the matter, though, and I hope this discussion goes on

I never said Naruto's purpose wasn't valid or that Naruto's purpose for attaining strength was minuscule, but there was nothing more important to Sasuke to attaining strength. Not his own life, not his best friend's life, and not his future. Even if Naruto wants to be acknowledged there are limits as to what he will do to get to where he wants. Sasuke on the other hand would sacrifice anything even the ppl he loves and that is y I can say that strength is more important to Sasuke.

Naruto's strength comes from his friends. That's the difference between Ashura and Indra. It doesn't really make sense, but Naruto is somehow empowered by the people who believe in him.

Except that strength was Naruto's purpose for existing. If he wasn't strong, he didn't exist. His purpose is not any less than Sasuke's just because Sasuke didn't care who he had to step over to get to his goal.

He kinda did in a way he wanted to get stronger than others so he can be acknowledged.

And attaining strength to take on Itachi was Sasuke's entire point of living for which he would sacrifice anything for. I can't see how that puts Naruto's desire for strength on equal footing as Sasuke if Sasuke is willing to become puppet just to get stronger.

Except that strength was Naruto's purpose for existing. If he wasn't strong, he didn't exist. His purpose is not any less than Sasuke's just because Sasuke didn't care who he had to step over to get to his goal.

So if Naruto was offered the opportunity to become stronger and be acknowledged if he would give up his ability of free will u think Naruto would have taken it.

Naruto's strength comes from his friends. That's the difference between Ashura and Indra. It doesn't really make sense, but Naruto is somehow empowered by the people who believe in him.

You see and that is what I mean as much as Naruto wanted to become stronger and be acknowledged the most important thing were always the ppl that looked at him. The ppl that he built a relationship with, that is what Ashura does. Ashura doesn't think that power is the key to attaining what he wants. He believes that it is ppl r most important.

Even if Naruto began trying to get strong in order to be acknowledged. Naruto would repeatedly put concerns of others ahead of his own and would even say that if he couldn't do it he didn't deserve to be hokage. Naruto's friends have always been what was more important than anything, even his own goal.

Yeah I agree with that. But at the same time, his desire to protect his friends makes him stronger. Strength is secondary to him, but he becomes stronger by making friends

And Gaara killed people just because he wanted to ''feel alive'' besides Sasuke only killed Danzo and he was involved in it.
