In my opinion, 3D2Y should have went this way: Luffy is struggling to master and control his Haki because the guilt from Ace dying, plus the paranoia of not being able to protect his friends because of this guilt, is weakening his willpower, which Haki is literally the manifestation of. Then, Luffy in normal mode being beaten up by World because World is too strong and too fast. Luffy comes back in their second confrontation, and punches him from the side with Gear 3, which proves to be effective, Gear 3 gave him the strength to harm World, but then World dodges the next Gear 3 strikes because he's too fast. Luffy uses Gear 2 to edge out the speed, he's faster in Gear 2 and can now hit World, but his strikes aren't strong enough, like in Gear 3, to be super effective. The dilenma is Luffy has to either pick speed and be able to hit World with blows that aren't strong enough, or enough power to harm World but the strikes aren't fast enough. He can't stack the Gears because his body is still recovering from his training and Marineford, plus his previous encounter with World, so stacking the Gear would do more harm than good to his body. When World slams him into the wall, Luffy thinks of his Nakama and Ace. Hearing World talk badly about his friends clears Luffy's resolve, Luffy knows he cares about his friends and is better than World and is better than what he's giving himself credit for, clearing up his guilt and paranoia and allowing him to control his Armament Haki. Now that he can control his Haki, he uses it in conjecture with Gear 2 to have BOTH the speed and power to hit World. This would have:

1. Given Luffy character development
2. Avoided the Fairy Tail-esque BS power-up to pull a victory

You should try reading. You know, that thing they teach you in Pre-K? I hear it does wonders.
Who told you I passed Pre-K?

Either way you're saying that he could've beaten without bullshit nakama power, but he couldn't, even if he controlled CoA, you just don't pass from getting wrecked in 10 seconds to a win

They should've shown the StrawHats also training
Robin meeting Dragon, Koala, and Sabo
Brook's rise to fame
Franky rebuilding himself
Zoro learning from Milhawk
Chopper learning to control the monster form
Usopp learning new sniping techniques
Nami learning a new technique
Also Sanji learning from the trannies

Except the version I presented wasn't "Getting wrecked in ten seconds then getting a win." Funny how OPB got that in a cinch, but I have to explain it to NB.

Luffy was inferior to World in normal form, lacking the speed and strength to hit him. In the version I presented, Gear 2 and 3 should have evened out the speed and power respectively, but he would have the dilenma of having either or, not both at once. Having Armament Haki the way I said would have been given him both at once, and wouldn't have been BS.

Don't be close-minded, Luffy beating World would have made sense if the writers of special wrote it in a way that does. Instead of saying he didn't lose any power, they could have said he was weaker from being frozen and not training for so long, even if his mind is in its prime, his body shouldn't have been. Then have his power decrease so then Luffy's Gear 2 could keep up, and Gear 3 and Haki could harm.

I think they should have made it into two months worth of episodes (8 releases) showing how all the strawhats trained over the two years, that would buy a little time for them to stop adding stupid fillers in the actual anime and get on with how the story is suppose to go.

Honestly when u realise World his DF could make every object 100 times faster and bigger and could even use it on his own to boost his speed to insane levels any victory for Luffy would ultimately seem ridiculous in my opinion. especially when their base stats were similair
I didn't really like burndy's fruit tbh...100 x faster? really?the only legit win would have been if he was actually really really weak in base form

I think so too. But if Toei write out the plot for all that instead of Oda, then they should spare those. It'll be a lot easier, meaningful and worthy if Oda draws them first, then Toei adapt them into animation as usual. Seems like Oda hasn't had much time to spend for explaining the two-years training courses by each Strawhat crew in detail through canon manga, so far.

Yup. Just as how OP of this thread initially suggested, yours was the other way around. Instead, Toei power-up Luffy in mere seconds by willpower against the strongest man among the Level 6 ID escapees. Both Luffy and World difference in strength level is very huge, i must say. Also, Luffy was only about to master his haki. If he just could get a grasp for both of his haki, although not fully, right from the start of their battle, the gap between them would be lessen more. Win by strong wish to protect his nakama and people he cares for is what i like about Luffy, but in this case, Toei distort that value by lowing down Luffy's physical strength from keep on developing properly.

They should have had World beating Luffy. I mean I get the whole it was to show Luffy gaining Haki but it would have been far more interesting to see Luffy lose to a Haki veteran. Luffy could have fought hard enough for World to turn on Akainu's ship and try protect his ship with that huge cannon while giving Luffy time to escape with Hancock.
