Is the manga good?

I'd say so. The author definitely knows his stuff, so that's a plus.

The manga is great. the author as Scaze said really knows what he is talking about and tells the story as if he has experienced it.

I deffo recommend reading it U_U

Off the top of my head I thought of two, but they aren't all that similar.
The Breaker has a bullied kid that learns how to fight from a teacher and becomes involved in a martial arts world. It's a great manga.
Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru It's about a gymnast that joins a karate club. It's a competitive tournament fighting manga that's definitely worth a read. Just think of the ending of Holyland and this is what that boxer character would have been doing.

3.Shamo

Both of these are good. but not all that similar to holyland.

Fiend on the other hand as he has suggested i would say Shamo is closest to holyland but its a lot more crude and more for a mature audience.
