Obito awakens his mangekyo sharingan and returns to the Leaf and uses his pain as power in the way only Naruto and Sasuke could. Obito outmatches Kakashi, becomes Hokage and alerts the Leaf to deal with old man Madara.

- could the Uchiha genocide be averted? How does this affect Sasuke? Do like, any of the main bad events in the show even happen?

Obito could've theoretically saved the ninja world.

I honestly don't see how his development would've been any different. He wouldn't have got rinnegan or 9 tails but that is it. He'd still be a Mangekyo wielding passionate strongest ninja in the Leaf.

That's the point. That's why I believe Kishi is making Obito regret and showing us him as Hokage. It's the irony that the man who is currently destroying the ninja world is also the one who could've saved it.

(Smaller factors and lil sh*ts like Deidara, Oro and Hidan pale In comparison to a village with Obito, Itachi, Minato, Jiraiya, Hiruzen etc)

all theyd need to do is weed out the danzo corruption. then they can get rid of the psychopath itchi who definitely wouldnt be too happy someone who isnt him is hokage.

No strain with kamui. Remember, he'd still have senju Dna so he would still be able to use kamui with no problem.
