It is textually said that Kakashi's sense of smell is far better than Kiba, at least than part 1 Kiba.

Unless you have proof he can remove his scent kakashi can track him via sent and air current. The only thing we know he removes is sound.
In both fights kakashi had to cover for others, maybe sent wasn't viable then but you have to prove its not viable now beyond "he didn't so he can't"
