How different the things would have been if Jiraiya became the 5th Hokage instead of Tsunade...? Would he have been able to protect the village better than Tsunade from Pain's attack? Which particular decisions do you think he might have taken differently if he was the Hokage?

I think tsunade still make a good job. Jiraiya is a free person. He likes to enjoy rather than sit at desk scrolling papers.

Honestly no. While I like him better than Tsunade, the Pain attack would have ended with Pain's victory in capturing Naruto and the Kuubi.
Think about it:

Jiraiyah wouldn't have died in Amegakure meaning Pain's secret would have never have been discovered. Jiraiyah's death wouldn't trigger the frogs to train Naruto in Sage Mode meaning he would have probably been in the village at the time of the attack with Jiraiyah who would have died protecting the village from pain who would have then taken Naruto.

So to be honest it might have been worse. I hate to say it, but Jiraiyah's decline for Hokage and his following death were important

There's nothing really major happened in Tsunade's term as Hokage (before the war) except for the Pain invasion. I dont think Jiraiya would have saved the lives of many Konoha shinobi, given the destruction via shinra tensei is inevitable.

if he were Hokage, who would have faced Pain first hand and learn some of his abilities prior to his attact to Konoha?
He wouldnt be badly injured and might have fought Pain before Naruto would have.
so would he also be in coma and not be able to represent Konoha in the summit? that would definitely change a ton of things.

If things went exactly as they did in Tsunade's term, Jiraiya would be alive hence no SM for naruto, Pain attacks leaf. Jiraiya fights them off and loses his life. If Tsunade's happens to be there at the time she saves everyone with katsuyu. Naruto is kidnapped and the kyuubi stolen. Naruto dies. Manga ends.

But this would not be the story is Jiraiya were hokage.

if tsunade didnt become hokage, she wouldnt go to the leaf, kakashiwould be in a coma,sasuke would probably be dead,and lee. unless sakura found some notes and healed everyone. tsunade is vital to thestory

Joking, he would be perverted as hell. Vs Pain, more people would have died. Tsunade kept a lot of people alive.

Jiraiya was following Akatsuki's activities for some time, that would have changed the whole scenario to that point.
But in a scenario where Pain still attacked the Leaf, Konoha would still be destroyed but after a grueling battle which Jiraiya would lose eventually...

In the present scenario, Jiraiya and Kakashi gave it their all and died to deduce the key information that was critical in Pain's defeat at hands of PnJ/TnJ...

Tsunade tops Jiraya as hokage. They both would have been destroyed by pain in confrontation, however Tsunade saved lives in the process and Jiraya couldn't.


Though if he was hokage, with Tsunade helping him the pain invasion would have gone well too, seeing as he could fight and she remote healed. Also Naruto would have never been pushed to learn SM which would leave Jiraya with imperfect SM and no intel vs pain.

As for Paperwork and stuff, Tsunade does that better too. Also if he was hokage Tsunade might have ended up having to go on the mission he did and would have died, or escaped who knows.

Jiraya couldn't test Madz much more than her either.


As far as i see it the original sannin barring maybe orochimaru arent as far apart in power as people might want. Things would have gone pretty much the same.


Also who thinks Jiraya and kakashi combo could defeat pain. Don't be silly, kakashi was made short work off especially with his stamina and reserves which are worse than Tsunade during pain arc. Jiraya would have lost him as a teammate very quickly. And Gai wasnt around.
