Back before the five great nations were established, there were multiple clans that simply wandered the land like nomads, seeking refuge from the elements, food, and dominance over one another. These clans were more powerful than the clans today, as they all had to fight for their right to food, water, shelter, and ultimately survival. Not only were there clans, but single ninja wandering alone, assisting and betraying clans like it was their job. The single ninja, powerful enough to survive a war against an entire clan long enough to escape, were also not to be taken lightly.
The two most powerful and well known ninja of this time period were direct descendants of the Sage of the Six Paths; Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara, heads of their respective clans. With their brothers by their sides, they lead the Uchiha and Senju in wars against each other, being hired out to the highest bidder constantly. With every bout the two clans had, they each became stronger, becoming the strongest clans of their day, and their leaders becoming the strongest members of their clans.
Outside of Hashirama and Madara, there were plenty of other ninja who were considered by many to be equal in power during that time, but they were drown out in history after Madara and Hashirama's final battle at the site which would become the Final Valley. These ninja included: Kamizuru Hyotta, the future First Tsuchikage, and leader of the Kamizuru clan; Uzumaki Jyton, leader of the Uzumaki clan and what would become Uzushiogakure; Alpha, the future First Raikage; Omega, Alpha's assistant and best friend; Hoshigaki Nyh, future First Mizukage, the leader of the Hoshigaki/Suikazan clan alliance, and the original "Seven Swordsman"; and Tyraz of the Scorching Desert, future First Kazekage. Every one of these ninja were considered the greatest ninja of their time, along side Senju Hashirama and Tobirama, and Uchiha Madara and Izuna, and many founded their own Hidden Village which was able to thrive even with the Hidden Leaf's existance. But after the final battle, they were lost in time, their only records here, in the History of Shinobi...

I know this is short, but it's just the prologue. The next chapter will be longer, if anyone shows any interest in this. I have some great ideas for these characters (PM me is you want to know about any of them), but I want to know if anyone would read something like this before going full-board into it.
