I've always been interested in how much history differs in other countries. For example in USA we are taught that Ben Franklin and Thomas Edison are to credit for "discovering" and capitalizing on electricity. But, i'd imagine in say, Italy that honor is granted to someone else.

Anyone here from another country have any largely different (or even contradictory) bit of book learnin' to share?

It's not just in USA. False history is in every school textbook worldwide.
I'm proud to say that Nikola Tesla was born in my country, and if he was never born, we most probably wouldn't be typing this right now. He most probably had the greatest mind in human history and was 100s of years in front of his collegaue scientists with his research, inventions and patents. For crying out loud he had wireless and smartphones in his head a century ago. And that's just the top of the iceberg.

I might make an elaborate thread about him soon.

He died old, alone, broke and forgotten in a box-sized apartment. :|

The sad part is that there are old historians that recognize foreign people and it's never public knowledge...

I agree with this ^^
And i'll add that if Tesla had been as greedy as some of the more well known inventors were, he would have been more highly recognized.

I found these interesting, often reading history you dont see lot of geopolitical reasonings.

Personally, I believe we barely know 10% of the history of our species. I wonder what kind of artifacts the Smithsonian Institute has covered up over the past 200 years.

As for history in class..I keep this quote in mind: ''History is written by the victors''.
