I have thought about Hisoka's character and have come to realize that he is sort of a mixture between Orochimaru and Kenpachi; that is to say he has a similar personality to Orochimaru but has the ideals of Kenpachi.
Hisoka and Orochimaru:
Hisoka is similar to Orochimaru in that he is attracted to powerful people and shares the same creepy personality as him.
1) Both of them have worked hard to give others power.
2) Both have an interest in young and talented ptospects.
3) Both are creepy and disturbing.
Hisoka and Kenpachi:
Hisoka is similar to Kenpachi in that their main goal is to live for the sheer pleasure of battling strong opponents.
1) While they don't mind killing the weak, it doesn't appeal to them. It's only fun to them if their opponent is powerful.
2) Sometimes they will refuse to fight weak opponents, even if the opponent is an enemy who they should kill, just because it is too boring.
3) They both wait for talented people to become stronger before fighting them.
4) They savor the pleasure of fighting for their lives, even if their own lives are in danger. An easy fight is boring. A fight with someone who is stronger than they are is exhilarating.
5) pain means nothing to them. If anything they are masochists who enjoy it.
