They were scary villains with interesting backstories. And yet they got fodderized pretty quickly after throwing down in the forest. Hidan walked right into a trap before doing anything cool, and Kakuzu was just chasing them around and shit and then got soloed to show off Naruto's new jutsu. They had more potential especially Hidan, who apparently had more curse techniques but Kishimoto had no time to show them off since his editor made him go back to Sasuke.

Actually I think both of them went as fardest they could go. Wasted for me was Sasori, but that's just me tho, I'm not a doctor.

Kakuzu should've been a drug kingpin and Hidan would've made a cool hitman

No I believe they showed their max potential. Hidan took out Asuma with that Curse Seal of his, it was only a matter of fate before Shikamaru formulated a plan to take out Hidan. He couldnt do anything to Shikamaru since Shikamaru put him in a checkmate. He didn't walk into it lmao, he didn't have a choice. His views on how Jashin helps him could have been expanded.

As for Kakuzu this also wasn't a wasted potential by Kishi. During the time when the Zombie Combo was active the Wind Style Rasenshuriken was really hyped up by Kakashi and Yamato. Kakashi even made a comparison about Naruto to Minato the Legendary Shinobi at that time itself. It was only right if Naruto took down Kakuzu's 2 remaining hearts down. Kakuzu's time was done as the Akatsuki had to get exterminated 1 by 1 until they revealed the Moon's Eye Plan. Kakuzu was tired af after battling Kakashi with his Raikiri so Naruto taking him down was vital to show that he was getting stronger because at that certain period of time he felt inferior to Sasuke. Kakuzu was at his max and hence why he got pwned by the Rasenshuriken. The Zombie Combo's were well developed compared to Sasori who got nerfed left and right in that battle. Like dafuq why didn't we ever get to see the Iron Sand's potential.

I have to agree with people above, they were pretty-well rounded - except for the fact that Kishi (by his own admission) didn't show some of Hidan's scythe's tricks.

Edo Kakuzu however? Why.

I think KinGin were wasted and shafted.

Hidan and Kakuzu got a decent amount of panel-time and show-off of their powers. I could see where people are annoyed he lost to show off Naruto's new move, but still a good run before that ending. And there's room to go crazy with Hidan, since Kishi stated he's still alive.
