Hiruzen Sarutobi is one of the wisest and most talented ninjas who ever lived in Konoha. Caring, dedicated, compassionate... these are some of the words that can describe the greatest Hokage from the Hidden Leaf Village. Hiruzen was loved by all and was respected by everyone in the village. He took his time to listen and talk to everyone and was always there to help someone in need, whoever it was.
As a child the only ones capable of training Hiruzen were Hashirama and Tobimara.
When Hiruzen was a young, he was immediately recognized as a ninja with high potential. He could learn faster than anyone else. He was such a prodigy that after the academy, his senseis could only be the First Hokage and the Second Hokage. After hard training with them, it was decided that Hiruzen was next in line to be hokage.
The Sage shares the same nickname with Hiruzen Sarutobi. Both are referred to as the God of Shinobi.
In his prime, Hiruzen was undoubtedly the strongest hokage ever. His power was so great he was revered to as the God of Shinobi . Even in his old age, he was still the strongest of all the five Kage. Aside from his strength, Hiruzen was also a genius. People gave him his nickname "The Professor" for being able to learn of the techniques in the hidden leaf.

As I said before, it was Hiruzen that could learn every single technique in Konoha. We have seen him do one of the strongest Katon Jutsus, which fires up everything in its path and a Doton Justu that protects him from anything that would come to him. But perhaps his most interesting tech was his Summoning Jutsu: Enma. In it's wand form, Enma was as hard as adamantine. It could effortlessly break through mokuton wood and was able to change size. Enma could, for example, turn into a cage to protect Hiruzen from any attacks. Wielded by Hiruzen, Enma could push out a full powered Kyuubi from the village. Enma in his monkey form was also a proficient fighter, easily manhandling Orochimaru and Tobimara Senju.

Aside from protecting the villiage outside in the open, Hiruzen also protected the villiage in the shadows. Only someone of Hiruzen's calibre was able to ensure Sasuke Uchiha remained unharmed. Hiruzen was also responsible for protecting Naruto Uzumaki after his parents died.
Hiruzen dominates the Senju brothers.
Hiruzen fought a valiant battle against Orochimaru, the First Hokage, and the Second Hokage. Despite being at a great disadvantage in a 3 on 1 matchup, Hiruzen refused to give up and used the Reaper Demon Seal. His shadow clones were more than enough to deal with the previous hokages, but age finally caught up with him and he was too tired to do the same with Orochimaru. Orochimaru noted that had this battle taken place 10 years earlier he would have died. However, even if Hiruzen couldn't seal Orochimaru completely, he still managed to seal Orochimaru's arms robbing him of the ability to form seals.
A hero's farewell.
Hiruzen threw away his own soul to rescue Konoha. He did this, yet he wasn't regretful. Thanks to him, Konoha's shinobi will contine to burn with the "will of fire" because they have been convinced of the fact that the village will be forever illuminated.
Hiruzen gets a perfect score in every stat. His decreased stats came with old age.
