the Edo served their purpose their for Oro won. The person who left the battle alive was Orochimaru. So he won. Using a suicide move on someone is not defeating them. Hiruzen had no choice.. ;l.
Also, the battle was just to show that he could do stuff even in his old Age..But it did not represent Hashirama and Tobirama's true fighting power.

I swear, you people get caught up in titles too much, it's never stated once that Hiruzen was the strongest, nothing is hax about Hiruzen unlike some other Kages (Minato, Muu, Hashirama, etc.).

If you read about Hiruzen you actually see the databook said he was still strongest at his time of death also

Kishi must have changed his mine somehow. For 8 years ago, Hiruzen was consider to be the strongest kagge, but now; Hashirama. I believe the reason is because Madara is the leader of Uchiha and the strongest one (After the Elder son), and he wanted strongest to strongest to fight. I understand him because that make sense as well.
