1. And Kabuto thought he could take on 3 tails Naruto, was 1 shotted. Zabuza thought he would kill Kakashi, he was the one edo tensei. It mean nothing if a character has confidence he can win. Hiruzen won that fight because Orochimaru played too much. Simple as that.

2. Hiruzen admits superiority over his peers, not Tobirama. SMH. Tobirama wasnt an option in the plan until he decided to step in. The reason why Tobirama was left behind was because HE was the best. If Hiruzen would have stayed, he would have been killed, and then Tobirama wouldve had to deal with the hunter nin.

3. Itachi bowed out of respect to the title of Hokage. Not to Hiruzen's power.

The First Hokage Hashirama Senju and Second Hokage Tobimaru Senju were not revived (e.i Edo Tensei) at their full strength. Not only that, but the were revived solely for the purpose as a physiological tactic to reduce Hurizen Sarutobi's moral in battle. However, this did not stop Hurizen from defeating them only the opposite. Only problem which arise was Orochimaru. Hurizen Sasutobi cannot bare to kill his former student Orochimaru. Orochimaru know this and took advantage. It was only to late for Hurizen to fulfill his duty as Hokage to kill Orochimaru. He became old and his chakra reserves were not how they used to be in his Prime. Therefore, he was not match for Orochimaru.

no tobirama stayed back because it was his duty as hokage not because he was the strongest hiruzen told them he was the strongest and he had been trained by tobirama and hashirama and that even while danzo was sealing himself afte being defeated by sasuke he admitted inferiority to hiruzen and said that hiruzen skill performing any tech is unsurpassed
