so I guess Hiruzen will be playing an important role on defeating Madara..

I think hiruzen is way to slow to pose any threat to madara. His ninjutsu would be easily negated and he would be forced into taijutsu with his monkey-staff, which would promptly get cut as easily as minitos arm. I feel his last purpose is to fight spiral zetsu.

Hiruzen allowed Madara to gather all the bijuu to save himself the trouble.
Hiruzen will then employ his "trump card" to revive himself.
