But why did he use Katon vs Katon, Raiton vs raiton ect?

Then people would have been downplaying Hiruzen by saying he had to use attacks of the opposite element to counter the Buddha. In this way, we see Hiruzen's mastery over the elements by perfectly countering a technique with the same technique and he still stopped the attack so I see nothing wrong with this.

That's flawed Logic. A Hokage should know how to counter an attack properly. He was literally putting the life of everyone else there in danger because he didn't use proper techs.

i was thinking this aswell when i first saw it.. but i can see why kishi has done it this way.. its so we can easily compare hiruzens elements to the shinsu senju and the scale of his attacks
