Kishi will make him play an important role. He must have realized that he kept Hiruzen in the dark for too long and decided to take out the other Hokage out of the battle so he can have his moment.

Also, isn't it kinda F'd up that he get's revived in his old age while all other Kages get revived in their prime? Even Madara got revived beyond his prime...Q _ Q

I believe kishi didn't revive Hiruzen in his prime because it would have ended the war to soon, by all accounts he was a beast and i don't think any one person in the series (with out rinagan or dna boosting) can use all five elements.
