Never said she was a coward, but she isn't the bravest. The scenarios you mentioned are completely different.

Against maddy she had naruto and sasuke behind her, it doesn't take genius to know they had a massive power up. The way she went against madara was no different from the way a wimpy kid stands up to a school bully when he has his bigger than average friends standing behind him.

The same can be said in the kaguya scenario.

But let us suppose she was a lone or surronded by others, who like her are helpless against madara and kaguya(like in the scenario I first mentioned) do you think she would just charge straight at such foes? Absolutely not.
