Hm...I can see why Obito would target Hinata. He wants to see Naruto under the same situatoin he went through and see how Naruto reacts. If for some reason Naruto does join the 'dark' side, than its confirmation for Obito (who seems unsure right now) that he wasn't the weak guy who gave up too easily. Though I dont agree with you on her dying by Obito's hand. You see, Neji passed on his will (to protect Hinata) to Naruto, and therefore, Naruto will try to protect her. (correct me if i'm wrong). And we already thought that Hinata died in the Pain arc, Kishi can't do that again. Repetitive events are never good.
