You've got the right idea, but you used the wrong reference. Hinata is far from being a modern day Japanese wife.

From what I've heard, watched and read, marriage in Japan is commonly just a facade - something way more about the ''duty'' than love and need for companionship. That's why the divorce rate is so low - people there think about themselves as a community and don't want to disrupt the harmony. There is no emphasis on the individual. Marriage is often dry, loveless, focused completely on the duties of the partners rather than any sort of connection between them. Often the husband completely ignores his wife, they sleep in separate rooms, *** is non-existent, affairs are very frequent, and all in all - a marriage devoid of any sort of happiness.

None of the above describes Naruto and Hinata's marriage which seems almost flawless. Rather than a Japanese wife, she is created to be the antipode of what I consider the stereotypical West girl: Sakura. Someone who:

- Started out as a brainless bimbo going for looks and coolness
- Ignores the nice guy
- Goes for the jerk
- Very shallow, annoying attitude

And that's what we have here: the most common views on two different types of girls, commonly associated with two very different cultures - the West and East's - put on paper.

What's kind of funny to me is that most of the fans here, their writing style and the vibe they give off as a person irl (as much as that can happen through a forum), would totally fit as someone who would like the characters they actually like. Go figure. :lol
