Shizune is no genius and she's a medic.
Kabuto has never been stated to have good chakra control but he's been praised at being equal to Tsunade in her prime.
Ino is a medic too. And yet Asuma has only praised Shikamaru for his intelligence.

Good chakra control and book smarts aren't a very good litmus test to disqualify a person from becoming a medic. Because as we have seen, these things can be learned in the NV.

Being a medic is not some exclusive club that only certain ninja can get in to. Since there is a medic on every team, thanks to Tsunade. There is a good supply of people with the necessary skills and dedication to become a medical ninja.

Exactly Hinata could maybe be a medic, but she would be a fodder medic. She would never be as good as Sakura so no she would not have helped in the saving gaara arc.

I don't think she would be a fodder medic if Tsunade was her teacher. Having 3 years of uninterupted training under Tsunade, coupled with the byakugan an it's ability to see through solid matter, and the gentle fist style allowing Hyuga the ability to project chakra from every tenketsu in their bodies. Any Hyuga would be in a good place to become a medic if they wanted.

However Hinata's ability's are deployed for recon and detection. Hinata's byakugan has a range of 10 km/ 6 miles. She can see chakra flows, barriers, and through genjutsu. Hinata can do all that after her own training during the time skip. So in terms of application, both Sakura and Hinata have a solid place in their respective fields.

I wouldn't call Shizune, Kabuto or Ino particually gutsy. Nor would I say each is brimming with will power enough to get them inducted into the Green Lantern corp. Sakura isn't very ballsy or bold if that is the litmus test. Medical Ninja is a learned skill. Like deciding to become a taijutsu ninja like Lee, and Guy or an assassin nin like Haku and Zabuza, or a puppet ninja like Kankuro, Chiyo and Sasori. You can become an expert in anything if you put time, energy and effort in to your craft.

Obviously the fact that he didn't listen to his co-workers means he doesn't like the idea.

Also, Sakura is a better representation of the women in the manga to be honest..
