Sure isn't conveying them being on the same level. In the databook no mention was made about Hinata catching up to Neji but rather it was said that Neji walked far ahead of her.Maybe so, but it's clear what happened and what the author is trying to convey.
None of this proves your claim. Its illogical to not consider that both were in a chaotic War with many things happening at once. Pretty much the same scenario happened here only w/o Hinata stepping in.The Zetsu is sent flying forward from the direction of Neji and Hinata, Neji apologizes to Hinata with Hinata asking if he is okay. There is no enemies around Neji beyond one Zetsu which he is facing. Meaning that Zetsu attempted to attack Neji form behind, which he would see because of Byakugan, but Hinata was able to intercept the attack before Neji had a chance himself to counter or rotate.

It was made clear that vast numbers were the cause.A easy hypothesis to explain this similar scenario with Hinata. Both showed Neji between only two zetsu yet there were clearly much more of them for him to have said too "many".
Put Hinata in that scan and have her protect Neji still provides no type of proof that she's near his level , only thing it would prove is that numbers played a role in Neji having any sort of problems which is logical in War and that Hinata is good enough to shunshin to a zetsu who wasn't targetting her and strike it before it could attack her busy teamate.
The author himself made sure to illustrate that Neji after death still walked far ahead of Hinata and you cant be close to someone who's far ahead of you.

Add that with the fact that she was never made Jounin after the War or the Last compared to Neji who got promted before the start of part2 and its clear that she wasn't walking close to Neji's level , by the authors own words.
If she really was close to his level before even catching 64 palms , then it would've been noted in the databook or reflected in her getting a similar rank to Neji , if not after the war then surely in between the two or three year time jump after the war , yet she was never promoted.
No amount of running around can change the fact that based on skill Neji , before part 2 >>>The Last Hinata , considered Chunin level three years after the war >>>War arc Hinata w/64 palms>War Hinata w/ 32 palms.
As far as you know isn't proof. Sakura , Lee and Shikamaru made Jonin so Choji being jonin is more likely than not especially compared to his father who was weaker by the end of the war. Rank has relevance here when comparing Neji and Hinata unless you can provide a logical hypothesis to why not.idk, but as far as I know Choji is still chunnin and Sai has some weird rank. But regardless, again, rank has no relevance to how strong someone is. Literally dozens of characters attest to this.
The only thing separating Hinata and Neji in rank is skill and Hinata's even after the Last isn't enough for her to get promted from average to Neji's level.

You can try to run away from the ranking system all you want but it doesn't change the fact that in this manga , your rank reflects your level , apart from cases where the ninja were either missing , or bloomed while titled Chuunin then promoted later. When comparing Neji to Hinata you can give no reason why her rank would be irrelevant when the manga clearly separates the two.
