And how do you think the sharingan originated? It came from the rinnegan and sharingan (that Kaguya possessed), both dojutsu that can't be deactivated. Making a descendant from Hagoromo and Hamura's lineage awaken a byakugan that can deactivate isn't a retcon, it just means it has evolved.

So just because he forgot and later decided to make her awaken it, it's a retcon? The original sharingan couldn't be deactivated either. What is the problem with making a Hagoromo and Hamura descendant awaken and deactivate a byakugan.

EDIT: To us, the Byakugan and Rinnegan has more mystery than the Sharingan. Both the Byakugan and Rinnegan still has the possibility to be further developed since the Otsutsuki (Kaguya's lineage) all have Byakugan and we still don't know where the Rinnegan originates from. Many believe that it's from the Juubi, but it's now clear that only the sharingan origanate from the Juubi, since the god tree only had the sharingan and other Otsutsuki possessed the Rinnegan.

So with who did Hamura have children? If its not an Otsutsuki with Byakugan or some jutsu to reproduce asexually, than his children are half Hyuuga.

So lets say he had children with an Otsutsuki woman.

Lets say he had 10 children, (lets pick a big number), 5 boys and 5 girls.
They than all kept it in the family? That doesnt look healthy.

Unless the Otsutsuki left to go to the moon (after like many years and not fairly quick after the Kaguya sealing),
after the Hyuuga clan was like counting hundred + members from having a bit more healthy pairings with other Otsutsuki people not that close related.
