Publisher Fujimi Shobo announced on Monday that production on a third anime season based on Ichiei Ishibumi's High School DxD light novel series has been green-lit.

The original light novel series with Miyama-Zero's art centers around Issei Hyōdō, a dim-witted, lecherous second-year high school student who is killed by a girl on his first date ever. Issei (voiced by Yuuki Kaji) is reincarnated as a devil, and from that day forward, he serves as an underling of Riasu (Yōko Hikasa), a high-level devil who is also the prettiest girl on Issei's campus.

Tetsuya Yanagisawa directed the first season at the anime studio TNK with scriptwriter Takao Yoshioka and character designer Junji Goto. The season premiered in Japan in 2012, and Funimation licensed it for North America for streaming and home video. The second season aired last summer and reunited most of the main staff and cast. Funimation also licensed the second season for streaming and home video.
