He has a rather cynical and even misanthropic view of the world around him, often belittling and mocking those who let their emotions get in the way of battle and the significance they place on friendship and life. And while he is relatively taciturn, he occasionally squabbles with and insults his teammates. Overall though it is obvious that deep down he holds a certain amount of respect and kinship for his teammates.
As a fighter, Hiei is very unbiased when it comes to his enemies. He shows the same degree of ruthlessness to his foes - regardless of age or gender. This is seen when he terrorized his opponents in the chuunin exams with threats. In battle, Hiei has killed the most opponents on the team- often making good on a threat he made at the outset. By contrast, he shows a surprising degree of sincerity, warmth, and protectiveness when around his twin sister Yukina.

『歴史 History』 Hiei was born to Hina and Kasai Uchiha along with his fraternal twin sister Yukina in Konoha. Before Hiei was even born, the Uchiha clan expected great things from him as his father was one the more respected and powerful members of the clan. Kasai was the epitome of a warrior when out in the field and was also known for solving some of the hardest and most difficult cases while working in the Uchiha Police Force. Hina took a different route in life and chose to be a housewife. She spent her time taking care of the house and family. She was however known for voicing her opinion during the clan meetings as she did not always agree with the majority.
Hiei ended up becoming a colder version of his father in contrast to his sister who took after their mother. He was a prodigy ninja. Kasai often bragged about how Hiei graduated the academy and became an Chuunin in the same year at the age of five while also unlocking his Sharingan. Unbeknownst to Hiei and his family, even the higher ups were watching him. Hiei's skill and cold personality made him an ideal candidate for the Anbu Black Ops and even Root. He still was far from being the strongest ninja though.
When he had time off, Hiei would always be sure to spend time Yukina. For her birthday promised to take her he would take her to the Land of the Hot Springs. Yukina loved to be pampered. While on their journey a group of twenty male rogue ninja ambushed Hiei and Yukina. They wanted money and Yukina. Normally Hiei would not hesitate to paint the landscape with their blood, but he did not want his sister to see him spill blood. Hiei tried to persuade them to leave, but he was not very good with those type of words. In fact that was the first time he ever attempted to do such a thing. The rogue ninja were insulted and all went on the attack. Despite them being Jonin level ninja, Hiei was able to kill 10 of them before falling. Hiei was fatally struck and passed out from losing so much blood. The last thing he saw was Yukina being carried away as he screamed for her older brother.
Hiei later awoke in a hospital in the Land of Hot Springs. Hoping it was a dream, he looked around for Yukina. Once he realized she was gone, he yelled in rage and set out to find her. He went to the location of the ambush to search for clues. Nothing the there, but the blood spilled from the battle. The country had already looked over scene in an futile attempt to investigate. From there Hiei made it his only goal in life to find his sister. With no clues, he had no choice, but to visit every country. With his he put a large scratch on his headband to indicate he was a missing-nin from Konoha. Months later while still searching for his sister he came across a rumor that Konoha's Uchiha Clan was massacred by one of its own with only one survivor. Through further research, Hiei confirmed this to be true. Under normal conditions he would seek this traitor out and kill them, but Yukina was more important.
Years later Hiei came across some leaf ninja. He had hidden his headband so that his missing-nin status not be revealed. It turns out that some Leaf Jonin out on a mission encountered the group of rogue ninja. The rogues were killed and Yukina was returned home. However she was horribly traumatized and suffered from PTSD. It was decided that he should not find out that her family, including her brother who was deemed dead, had been killed. Yukina had her memory stuffed into the depths of her mind and replaced with implanted memories. She was also given an adoptive family. Finally knowing Yukina was safe, Hiei made his way back to the village seeking to once again join Konoha. The Hokage pardoned his abandonment, but forbid him from revealing the truth to his sister. At best they were only allowed to be friends. This was okay with Hiei. He did not wish to be her friend. Instead he made it his business to never let anything bad happen to her again. Hiei would often spy on Yukina while she was out in the village and, if he could, while she was out the village.
Quickly Hiei got back to his ninja duties and entered the Anbu. Hiei was directed to keep knowledge of his Uchiha blood in the village for as long as possible. The Hokage did not want the world to know the village once again had the strongest doujutsu within its forces.

During his career as a Leaf ninja, Hiei has embodied the Will of the Fire. The Will of the Fire is the belief that only through love, understanding and decisive action can true peace be acquired, though never by attacking others and rather by protecting something the individual holds dear. Hiei surely but slowly is learning to love the village as his family since his original was destroyed.

『武器 Bukijutsu』 Hiei has regularly displayed great skill in various ninja tools. He is very tactical with wire strings, using them for a variety of purposes including rappelling, manipulating the path of his shuriken, and guiding his nature transformation.
『手裏剣 Shurikenjutsu』 Hiei is also well-versed in usage of kunai and shuriken, showing tremendous aim while still in the academy. Tactically, he can use techniques like hiding a second shuriken in the shadow of the first and control the path of them using wire strings to ensnare an opponent with the strings.

Description: More than a technique, ability or skill, the Will of Fire and the Will of Darkness are, instead, teachings and philosophical beliefs that induce specific ways of teaching and acting towards the protection of the Village.
The will of fire is an idea taught to and carried by all members of Konoha. It is the belief that only through love, understanding and decisive action can true peace be acquired, though never by attacking others and rather by protecting something the individual holds dear. The belief is a spiritual heritage that was created by Hashirama Senju and passed down to all the villagers and shinobi of Konoha. Shinobi who carry this belief love the village with all their heart and will fight to protect it even against the most significant odds. It gives them the strength to keep going even when the situation looks grim. When defending the village the Will of Fire gives the shinobi of Konoha the extra strength needed to defeat the invading forces and the will power to continue the battle after receiving damage, ensuring the Will of Fire is never extinguished.
Can only be used by members of Konohagakure who embody the Will of Fire.
Only usable when defending the village from external threats.
Normal members receive a +10 damage boost as well as a strength and speed boost equivalent to one rank (based on the NB ranking system). So for example a Jounin would gain the strength/speed of an S-Class Ninja, a S-Class Ninja would gain the strength/speed of a Sannin).
Normal members can continue after being hit by one B-rank or below attack but lose the bonus damage, speed and strength.
The Hokage and Village Officers receive a +15 damage bonus and strength and speed increased by one rank.

The antithesis to the Will of Fire, the Will of Darkness is a school of thought that was developed by Shimura Danzo during the reign of Hiruzen Sarutobi and taught to the members of the Root (Ne). He instilled this will within members of his Root organization so that they would be able to carry out their missions successfully and without failure. The Will of Darkness holds the belief that one must protect what he loves by aggressive action and the destruction of all potential threats, no matter the moral cost or context. Where the Will of Fire is based on the defense of the village, the Will of Darkness is based on the attack of its enemies. After his death and the dissolution of Root, his will spread into other Konoha shinobi as former root members began to integrate themselves back into normal village organizations. People who have committed themselves to this school of thought understand the need to eliminate threats and do things that may be considered amoral for the greater good. As a result they battle without hesitation and with a greater ferocity when committing acts of aggression than those who adhere to the Will of Fire.
