The message about the future is clear. Gai will lose to Madara but be the winner at the same time. Some may not understand this. Dai said something about its not all about winning or losing but about proving yourself as a winner. Lee proved himself to be the most badass rookie at the chunin exams even though he lost to gaara, Dai who was made fun of and weak (will)proved himself as a winner by defeating the swordsmen except for some which ultimately tags him as the loser of the bout and probably die. However he will earn the respect of his peers for tangling and pwning legends. Gai will do the same aginst Madara, being the winner even though he lost.
Gais statement about nourishing the younger leaves suggest lee will gain a powerup and conquer his inability to learn ninjutsu just like gai did. Lee will surpass Gai eventually and isnt it odd lee is sitting there watching while using gates? He doesn't plan to attack but still as gates open.
