the only ability we ever see from hidan is his suicide jutsu + immortality. from the fight we see him defeated in, he doesn't need to be near the guy he uses the ability on, all he needs is a tiny bit of blood. it doesn't have to be cut out of the persons body with the stick thing he uses either. he can pretty much set up his circle thing wherever he wants and hit someone far away.

so hidan basically decides that he's going to fight by going close combat, which he sucks at, and getting one hit on someone before sacrificing them. this basically just made him a worse version of sasori except he is 'immortal' which we see means nothing because his body can still be seperated into parts and buried. it's implied that you need to continue killing people to maintain immortality so that would essentially kill him.

if hidan was smart, he'd never enter combat in the first place. he could work as a travelling doctor, collecting blood of ninjas and then killing them far later with his technique. or he could just become friends with people and get their blood through 'training' with them. obviously it might be suspicious if he shows up, and then people start dying left right center, but imagine if he came and left and 6 months later started sacrificing people. obviously that isn't shown to have worked but it's still potentially possible.

other members of akatsuki could also merely wound their opponents, get a tiny bit of blood, and fly it back to hidan who then 1-shots. of course if he still really needs to slaughter people to maintain his immortality he could just head to any war torn country and shred up a defenceless village.

why hidan was a close combat fighter, or a fighter at all, I will never understand.

hidan wasn't the most intelligent shinobi. he basically thrives on pain and killing others. having other people kill for him would be no fun. same with befriending people or becoming a doctor. he doesn't care about the inefficiency he just wants to murder people and see the light disappear from their eyes

It makes sense because all jutsu have certain criteria you must follow as do the ritual Hidan uses.

I think this strategy accounts for all of that. he did the ritual with some blood from a bottle far away from where the person actually was, significantly after that person had been wounded, and he wasn't the one who inflicted the wound.

The doctor thing wouldn't work on ninja. Ninja squads have their own medics.

Most of the Akatsuki members would be able to kill their opponents if they are able to draw blood, so wasting time and giving an opening by collecting the blood and sending it to Hidan would be foolish.

Over thinking it. Plus we don't know all the rules of the Jashinist religion and sacrifices. Hidan was a cultist lunatic so it was probably holy to him to collect the blood of his victims himself. He wasn't worried about getting chopped up because he always had Kakuzu with him and he didn't think both of them would ever be taken down. Hidan didn't need to be good at jutsu because he had such a huge handicap. You have to chop his body into pieces. All he has to do is scratch you.

Well Hidan's religion is based on sadistic murder, so being blinded by this...he naturally wants to see people's expressions as they die....cause he's twisted.

Hidan doesn't suck at close combat...it is more like everyone is simply good at it, giving him no real alternatives to draw blood!

I agree it's not super great for all the members of Akatsuki, but for someone like deadra it could be helpful. the other good thing is you might not actually have to collect the blood right away, and could just come back later and get it if the fight wasn't going 100% your way.

He just has a special ability but once his opponent knows it he becomes very vulnerable.
this is exactly my point. if you've never heard of hidan and don't know how his ability works, he could kill you extremely easily without ever fighting you. however he fights people and then basically just shows them what he looks like and how his skill works. I guess he doesn't plan on leaving survivors but I still think it's stupid.

Hidan does not suck in close quarter combat, its the opposite. He dominated Asuma, who was supported by Shikamarus shadows.
didn't shikamaru evade him by himself?

I understand we don't know all the rules but going off the rules shown in the manga there's no reason he couldn't do this. i agree with the mentality you describe for hidan. I just think he was really stupid to act like that because as soon as he does come up against a team that can take them both down, that's exactly what happens. where as no one can take down someone they don't ever see, or realize is an enemy.

You do realize that Hidan is a bad guy and HE HAS TO LOSE for the plot? How are the main/supporting characters going to defeat him if he were to fight the way you imply, would make sense.

So yes, it does make sense that he fights for his kills.

You're trying to make sense of insanity. Not gonna work out. Does it make sense for a farmer to sacrifice his goat to a god so that his farm will do well? Not really he's just losing a goat. Hidan had blind faith that he would never die and Kakuzu would always be there to sew his immortal body back together. Not all that crazy since Kakuzu was so old and generally accepted as one of the most powerful ninja in Akatsuki.

hidan sacrifices stuff for power. that makes sense. sacrificing a goat for power would make sense if you actually got power like hidan did. I agree that hidan had blind faith but it was stupid to believe that kakuzu and him could never get into trouble given how he was practically a hindrance to kakuzu.
