So basically, Hidan is considered the weakest out of Akatsuki. And taking into consideration his feats, he actually is. But he wasn't supposed to be so much inferior to others.

There are two sources confirming that.
A. One was an interview with Kishi where he admitted that he wanted to develop Hidan more, but he couldn't spend more panel time on him thanks to his superiors' orders. I lost that interview and that's why I've been waiting so long with creating this thread...
B. BUT yesterday I came across another source confirming Hidan's underdevelopement. :) Kishi clearly states that Hidan and his scythe were supposed to be stronger.

It's sad, because Hidan was one of the most charismatic characters in Akatsuki. I don't want to say that his potential was wasted, but if I'm to be really honest, I'd have loved to see him developed properly - without any panel time restrictions ;)

there was a lot that could have been doen with akatsuki in general..

they could have done it where hidan got away from shikamaru and they met once again in the war and allowed time for shikamaru to develop more aswell as then show us more from hidan..

without intel hidan is deffinetly the most deadly no doubt...

however it would have been great is kishi displayed us hidans scythe skills mixed with a wind affinity.. could have made him very powerful and it would very much suit his style

Nope. Because Kishi did what he intended to do from the beginning. It was only Hidan who's developement and panel time were cut.

He just said "His scythe can actually do all sorts of tricks, but I never got to show all of them (laugh)"

That doesn't mean he was stronger, just means his scythe was fancier. If he had said "He can actually do all sorts of tricks, but I never got to show all of them (laugh)" then it would mean he was meant to be stronger.

Kishi said his scythe had other tricks and he had other curse jutsus. Too bad there wasnt much time to his full arsenal to be shown. If u really wana know how strong hidan is, look at his stats 31.5. Though he wasnt shown in full, his stats reflect what hes truly capable of.

A lot of material and time used to empower Hidan, could make a lot stronger and smarter shinobi. Hidan was not stupid, but he was too reckless and childish.
