If Kakashi was significantly better in that department he would have brushed Hidan aside or even disarmed him and dealt with Kakuzu.

It was a straight 1v1 with Kakashi and Hidan in this scenario.

So much for your 1v1 scheme, when Shikamaru and Asuma ganging up on Hidan still couldn't do anything until he let his guard down. Hidan had to worry about fighting Asuma and landing his blow simultaneously dodging shadow possession, and he managed to do so without even receiving a scratch from Asuma in mere moments.

And this all lines up perfectly because later we see Kakashi was even matched by a Hidan not at full power (no rope attached to his scythe his preferred fighting style).

Kakashi was already wasting a severe amount of chakra due to kakuzu, he only can use raikiri like 4 times a day and wasted 2 due to Kakuzu, Hidan by himself would've been a non factor, Kakuzu was the main threat evidenced by the fact that it took a crowd to finish him, hidan was solo'd by shikamaru, obviously one of these 2 were fodder the instant they got seperated, I'll let you figure out which one that was.

I think Hidan is the weakest of the akatsuki (not including kakuzu's previous partner and the mist swordsman - iitachi's companion - as we know nothing about both of them). But the "surprise" moment mentioned before can be fatal to his foes - even kage level, they have good reflexes, flight and etc but that is exactly why hidan has his scythe (it can even cover long ranges) and not just a knife or a sword. You shouldn't be fighting CQC with hidan that's for sure, that's asuma's mistake.

However, with intel on him he's just too easy to beat. i mean really. He's the weakest of the akatsuki cuz of the poorest set of skills, to much chatting with opponents, no strategy at all, poor battle experience.
